We have established ourselves as a reliable link for effective communication, connecting the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard-of-Hearing community with their hearing counterparts.
Founder Information:
I'm Amanda Costa, the heart and soul behind Lil' Bird Interpreting LLC. My journey into the world of ASL interpretation was sparked by a moment of clarity while perusing a bookstore. After 16 years in the retail industry, I realized my true passion lay in becoming an agent for communication.
In 2016, the lure of the ASL community led me to enroll in my local community college, where I embarked on my Sign Language Interpreter associate degree journey. Along the way, I had the privilege of meeting my diverse cohort. As well as remarkable individuals from the Deaf community, enriching my understanding of their cultures and experiences. Today, some of these peers and mentors are colleagues and cherished friends. Later, in 2021, I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Psychology.
In 2019, I passed the Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) standard level one examination, acquiring the DeafBlind endorsement and enabling me to offer accessible and equitable interpreting services. After three years of valuable experience in the community and Video Relay Service (VRS) settings, I passed the BEI standard level two examination and obtained the Medical and Mental Health endorsement. Later that year, I received my National Interpreter Certification (NIC). Followed shortly by the Legal endorsement. Which established me as a standard level three interpreter.
